Codes and Conventions

Codes
When techinal elements such as camera, sound, mise-en-scene, editing or special effect are used to communicate with and lead the audience to expect certain things.

Conventions
Its when you expect something to happen in a certain genre of a film. For example 'horror' you expect killing, thunder, a group of people or a weapon.

    Your definition of the key phrasal term “media code” begins well but needs developing. The work here is also incomplete. You needed to explore technical codes at work. Anchor yourself with a specific moving image extract and explore how technical elements such as CAMERA, SOUND, MISE-EN-SCÈNE, EDITING or SPECIAL EFFECTS (which may also be conventions of the genre) are used to: communicate with / manipulate / engage the audience; and lead the audience to understand / think / feel / expect certain things.
